These works were shown in the 2023 exhibition “Identities” at the “B” Dry Goods gallery in Brooklyn. It was my first show since coming out as transgender in 2019. Initially, the pieces for the exhibition were envisioned as large-scale versions of the drawings that I had been posting on social media since the height of Covid. During the process, I pulled out a bunch of oil paintings I’d worked on before coming out, sliced them up, and began making collages. Eventually I added notes from my journals as well as old scientific illustrations I had done. The exhibition also featured an installation re-creating the “femme wall” I’d made at home as inspiration during the early years of my gender transition.
